Space of the month: Torre de los Picos - Alhambra

The Tower of the Points (Torre de los Picos) received this name because its merlons end in brick pyramids. It was built in the late 13th century or beginning of the 14th and it is therefore surprising to see its Gothic style.

It helped defend one of the entrances to the fortress that was connected to the Generalife. A passageway that ends up at the Gate of the Poor Quarter (Puerta del Arrabal) leads to the barracks and the bastion, which conform the defence of the fortress. The Iron Gate (Puerta de Hierro) was rebuilt by the Catholic Monarchs at the same time as the bastion.

Highlights: The Torre de los Picos (Tower of the Pointed Embattlements) is one of those of major size in top view elevation along with the Torre de Comares (Comares Tower). Inside it is presents three units, standing out its vaults: cloister vault in the first floor and with four ribs in the second one.

Opening time: From 8:30 to 20 hours. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays

Entrance: with the general admission ticket for the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra
